ESCWA, in collaboration with the Arab Institute for Training and Research for Statistics (AITRS), are organizing two back-to-back meetings; the 1st Meeting for the Steering Committee and Workshop on Progress of Societies at the Kempinski Hotel in Amman from 3 to 4 October 2008.
The main objective is to proposed action plan for 2010-2011 and explore concepts and measurement tools towards identifying a regional minimal set of indicators for measuring progress made in the Arab region. Such indicators will be chosen to best represent the situation of the Arab region and will complement the MDGs global framework. It is expected that the Meetings will accomplish the following:
a) Enhanced understanding Arab countries about what societal progress means;
b) Enhanced understanding of different tools and indicators needed to reflect and measure the Arab region's perspective in measuring progress towards the MDGs and other development goals.
