Within its mandate to enhance competition frameworks in the Arab region, ESCWA, in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), is organizing a meeting for Arab countries as a side event of the OECD Global Forum on Competition.
The meeting is aimed at addressing recent national competition initiatives, progress in implementing the recommendations of the 5th Arab Competition Forum, and preparations for the 6th Forum. It also highlights contributions from Arab competition authorities, showcasing their achievements, addressing current challenges, and sharing experiences to foster collaboration and advance competition frameworks across the region.
ESCWA is also participating in different activities during the two-day Global Forum, which brings together over 100 competition authorities, international organizations, and experts. The discussions of the forum focus on the role of competition law and policy in addressing inequality, challenges in cross-border merger reviews, and tackling market failures in the food supply chain.
