Term:
Gear regulation
Definition:
The main reported mechanisms continued to be the classic fisheries management tools such as managing fisheries through access regulation (57 percent), gear regulations, closed seasons, total allowable catches and quota controls, etc. However, actual precautionary mechanisms, such as the setting of quotas at a proportion of what research would permit as the maximum sustainable yield, remained few.
