Definition:
Fisheries livelihood are made up of the capabilities, activities and assets (including both material and social resources) that contribute to a means of living. Livelihoods are influenced by policies, institutions and processes, and are affected by external factors such as shocks and trends (e.g. natural disasters and changing climate conditions). Examples of the contributions that coastal and inland fisheries can make to livelihoods include: reduced vulnerability, employment, cultural and social benefits, cash income, household food security.
