Term:
By-catch
Definition:

Fish or other fauna (e.g. birds or marine mammals) that are caught during fishing, but which are not sold or kept for personal use. In commercial fishing these include both fish discarded for economic reasons (economic discards) and because regulations require it (regulatory discards). Fish released alive under catch-and-release fishery management programs are not normally considered as bycatch.
