Nowcasting the national multidimensional poverty index for the State of Palestine (2017–2022)
June 2023
To fight poverty and improve welfare, social and economic policies in the State of Palestine need to be based on up-to-date figures and statistics. However, the most recent multidimensional poverty index (MPI) uses the Palestinian household expenditure and consumption survey from 2017, and a new survey will not be run until at least 2023. In the interim, the present paper provides an estimate or nowcast of the 2022 MPI based on supplementary data sources and reasonable assumptions about the directions and magnitudes of change of the various indicators measuring multidimensional poverty in the State of Palestine.
