ESCWA at 40: Working for a just and prosperous Arab world

This booklet was published on the occasion of ESCWA’s 40th anniversary. It highlights key development challenges in the Arab region, and presents an overview of ESCWA’s work, key achievements and plans for addressing them.
The booklet is divided into seven chapters focusing on: inclusive human development; regional economic integration; knowledge-based development; empowerment of women; sustainable management of natural resources; inclusive development in times of conflict and crisis; and the role of youth in shaping the future. Each chapter addresses the key development challenges faced by member countries, underlining ESCWA’s commitment to work with them to find sustainable solutions for these challenges.
The seven priority areas addressed in this booklet are among the main areas in which ESCWA works with governments, civil society organizations and experts to build consensus and broker agreements the region.
