Energy efficiency legislations and policies in the Arab region

January 2019

This fact sheet focuses on the status of energy efficiency in the Arab region in terms of goals, institutional frameworks, legislation, policies, performance standards, funding mechanisms for energy efficiency measures and the future vision for each of the Arab countries.

It indicates that due to the increasing energy demand in the Arab countries - which is a result of the growth in Arab population - and in order to meet the sustainable socio-economic development in the energy exporting and importing countries, it is necessary to adopt integrated energy efficiency policies based on effective natural resource management and long-term strategies. These strategies take into account the diversification of the energy mix, the improvement of the efficiency and optimization of the use and consumption of energy in all of the country’s sectors.
