Nasser Shammout

Director of Resources Management & Services Development Division

Nasser Shammout is the Director of the Resource Management and Service Development Division at ESCWA.

Mr. Shammout has a long history of working with the United Nations. Prior to joining ESCWA, he was Acting Director of the Division of Programme Support at the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva. He also served as Senior Management Advisor at UNDP headquarters, and as Deputy Director of the People and Change Group and Director of Management Services at UNOPS headquarters in Copenhagen.

Mr. Shammout was Chief of Operations at the Development Operations and Coordination Office (DOCO) in New York from 2008 to 2011. Before that, he served as Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he led its country programme and operations, and spearheaded discussions around gender equality. He also led the new model of human resources services at UNDP, managing the creation and operationalization of the JPO Service Centre and the Payroll, Benefits and Entitlements office in Copenhagen. Early in his career with the United Nations, Mr. Shammout worked from 1996 to 2002 in the Arab region with UNDP and UNOPS in their offices in Jordan, Iraq and South Lebanon in the field of operations management. He also worked at UNRWA headquarters in Vienna in the fields of budgeting and human resources.

Mr. Shammout holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool.
