Beirut, 24 September 2010 (UN Information Service) — Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Saleem El Sayegh, ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa and the Head of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Lebanon Samir Farah will open a workshop on “Social Protection as Development.” The workshop is scheduled to open at 09:30 on Tuesday 28 September 2010 at Bristol Hotel in Beirut. The workshop, which will last three days, aims to bring together experts and interested participants to discuss challenges, successes and failures of different models of social protection implemented in the ESCWA, Latin America and Asia-Pacific regions.
The main goal will be to identify innovative approaches that can increase the impact of social protection programs and projects and to consider different ways of combining assistance with insurance.
