UN-ESCWA to Hold Road Safety Workshop in Cairo

UN-ESCWA in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), is holding a workshop on “Capacity-Building of National Focal Points” from 20 to 21 December 2006 at the Kuwait Conference Hall, WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Cairo. Opening at 10:00am on Wednesday, the meeting is aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills on the use and adaptation of the tool kit developed by the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration, and on the manual for the establishment of National Road Safety Councils. In addition, a consensus will be sought on joint activities to be implemented by member countries during the first UN Road Safety Week. The meeting is expected to be attended by the elected focal points for the UN Road Safety Week, officials from traffic safety departments and others dealing with traffic safety issues in the UN-ESCWA region, consultants and representatives of international safety bodies, as well as representatives from the civil society groups dealing with traffic safety in the UN-ESCWA region.
