During her stay, Migiro is set to visit Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The deputy secretary-general will take part in an ESCWA-hosted meeting of the RCM on 25 November to coordinate the work of UN agencies in the Arab region. Many regional directors of UN bodies and specialized agencies will converge in Beirut to attend the meeting. Asha-Rose Migiro is the third person to occupy the post of deputy secretary-general since its establishment in 1997. Prior to her UN appointment, she was the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation in her native Tanzania. The RCM aims at strengthening coordination and cooperation among UN agencies working in the Arab region, sharing information at all fronts, facilitating joint work and reinforcing it to better serve countries of the region and boost the efficiency of UN work.
