Together for the Empowerment of Women

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) and the Communications and Information Unit (ECIU) at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) in collaboration with the UN-ESCWA Centre for Women, are organizing a panel discussion entitled “Together for the Empowerment of Women”, on Monday 9 March 2015 at the Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut (Carthage Room), at 11:30 AM. Speakers at the event include Former Minister Ziyad Baroud who will touch on the political resolution for supporting gender equality, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mira Daher Violides who will shed light on the role of women in leadership, Regional Adviser for Gender Equality at ESCWA’s Centre for Women Wafaa Dikah Hamze, who will give a brief about the role of international frameworks and instruments in advancing gender equality, Actress and Director Nidal El Achkar, who will focus on culture and art as tools to consecrate women’s rights and Producer and Writer Nibal Arakji, who will speak about the approach to alter the stereotypic image of women. The discussion, moderated by Head of NGO “Sakir El Dekaneh” and Political Media Adviser Rabih El Chaer, represents an opportunity to initiate debates about the aforementioned topics and will be attended by representatives of the various NGOs operating in Lebanon. The Panel Discussion will be followed by a cocktail reception.
