Successful E-Government Implementation

Successful E-Government Implementation is on the table at the UN House in a workshop on "Electronic/mobile Government in Arab States: Building capacity in knowledge management through partnership". The meeting is held on 18-20 November 2008 at the UN House, Riad Solh Avenue to tackle the way to successfully implement the electronic-mobile government issue in the Arab World. The meeting, which opens at 09:00 AM on Tuesday 18 November 2008, is organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA). It brings together policy makers, practitioners and experts on electronic/mobile government initiatives, and representatives from the UNPAN member institutions, the academia, the private sector and international organizations in the Arab region. Participants will explore the issues and challenges of electronic/mobile government development in the Arab region and its successful implementation; exchange ideas and knowledge for building capacity in knowledge management; and discuss initiatives for cooperation in initiating and implementing electronic/mobile-government solutions. Arab and Gulf States will be able to share lessons learned and innovative solutions to enhancing electronic/mobile-government in the region. Consequently, South-South interaction, co-operation and partnership will play a critical role to the success of this meeting. Many of the Arab countries and Gulf States have started to invest more resources in developing electronic/mobile-government solutions and services. They are revamping their existing web sites and portals to be more citizen-friendly by providing more information and services online. The use of mobile services in the Arab regions has expanded tremendously over the last couple of years and thus the opportunity to link mobile to e-government solutions and services will be crucial to the transformation of these countries.
