Regional Commission Marks Solidarity Day with Palestine in Presence of Lebanese and Palestinian Prime Ministers

This year’s ceremony on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 November) will be marked by the participation of Lebanese and Palestinian Prime Ministers Rami Al-Hamdallah and Najib Mikati. The ceremony, which will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, the 29th of November 2013 at the UN House, Riad El-Solh Square, Beirut, will include the message of the United Nations Secretary-General, which will be delivered by Deputy Special Representative for Lebanon and UN Resident Coordinator Robert Watkins and the statement of ESCWA, which will be delivered by ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf. Arab activist, actress and Goodwill Ambassador of the World Food Program (WFP) Hend Sabry will be the guest of the day. A yearly tradition organized by ESCWA to express a stand against the suffering of the Palestinian people, the ceremony will start by a song performed by Amal Kaawash, and will be followed by the inauguration of a handicraft exhibit prepared by Palestinian non-governmental organizations. The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is marked in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolutions 32/40B of 2 December 1977 and 64/17 of 21 January 2010. The ESCWA Communication and Information Unit (ECIU) invites media institutions to take part in this event and submit the names of their delegates by Thursday 28 November 2013 on the following numbers: 76-046402 or 70-993144. On Friday, the media should be in the event’s hall no later than 9:15 am. This arrangement is required in order to facilitate the access of media representatives to the UN House.
