Regional Commission’s Team Heads to Iraq



          Beirut, 23 October 2017 (Communication and Information Unit)-- A delegation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), chaired by its Deputy Executive Secretary for Program Support Khawla Mattar, today started an official visit to Iraq. The visit continues until Wednesday 25 October 2017.

          The delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with the General Secretariat for the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Water Resources and the Follow-up Committee for National Reconciliation. The delegation will also meet representatives of civil society organizations as well as the United Nations Country Team in Baghdad.
The main objective of the visit is to prepare an integrated plan of action to support Iraq, which will lead to the signing of a framework for technical cooperation before starting the process of implementation.

          The ESCWA headquarters in Beirut had hosted a coordination meeting for the official visit to Iraq on 16 August 2017, which was attended by Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Al Amiri and the accompanying staff, and the ESCWA concerned team chaired by United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim.
