Media Arrangements for the 27th Ministerial Session of ESCWA

Beirut, 27 April, 2012 (ESCWA Communications and Information Unit)- The 27th Ministerial Session of ESCWA will be held on 9-10 May 2012 at the U.N. House in Beirut under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati. High Level meetings preceding the Session will be held on 7-8 May, 2012. Within this context, ESCWA Communications and Information Unit (ECIU) kindly requests that all media institutions and reporters take the arrangements below into consideration in order to ensure maximum cooperation between ESCWA and the media. 1. The media is invited to cover the ministerial meetings. 2. The media interested in covering the ministerial meetings is kindly requested to confirm attendance no later than Friday, 4 May, 2012 by calling: +961-70-993 144 +961-3-910 930 3. Wednesday 9 May, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.: Opening ceremony. Media institutions and reporters who have confirmed their attendance should arrive to the conference hall with their work ID’s, no later than 9:00 a.m. - Speakers at the opening ceremony will be Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Head of the 26th Session, Engineer Sultan Bin Saeed AlMansouri, UAE Minister of Economy and Head of the 27th Session, Dr. Rima Khalaf, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA, and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati. A message of the United Nations Secretary-General for the occasion will be also delivered. - Tele-Liban will be providing live coverage of the opening ceremony. 4. Wednesday 9 May, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. till 1 p.m.: A ministerial round table discussion will be held with the participation of concerned journalists on “The Role of Participation and Social Justice in Achieving Sustainable and Balanced Development.” 5. Wednesday 9 May, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 pm.: A ministerial round table discussion will be held with the participation of concerned journalists on “The Ongoing Preparations for the Rio+20 Conference in the Arab Region.” 6. Thursday 10 May, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m.: A ministerial round table discussion will be held with the participation of concerned journalists on “Inclusive Financing in the ESCWA Region: Current Status and Future Prospects.” 7. Thursday 10 May, 2012, from 12 noon till 1:00 p.m.: Launching a cyber-legislation guidance project in the presence of substantive journalists.
