Deneme ESCWA is organizing an open forum on “Internet Governance: Challenges and Opportunities for the ESCWA Member Countries” during the fourth meeting of the Internet Governance Forum. The Forum is held on 17 November 2009 from 14h00 until 15h30 in Room 8 – Citadel, Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The forum will officially launch a comprehensive study entitled “Internet Governance: Challenges and Opportunities for the ESCWA Member Countries” tackling major issues related to Internet governance from the Arab region perspective. The IGF is a five-year programme which was conceived as an outcome of the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in 2005. Since its launch in 2006, the IGF has met in Athens in 2006, Rio de Janeiro in 2007 and Hyderabad in 2008 and this year marks the fourth meeting which will be held at the Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh between 15 and 18 November 2009. With around 1500 participants from more than 90 countries represented with hundreds of organizations attending in the IGF meeting, this event will tackle issues related to Internet governance from different viewpoints. The main areas of discussion of the IGF are: critical Internet resource, access, diversity, openness, and security.
