Haidar Fraihat, Director, ESCWA Information and Communication Technology Division, and Ayman Sherbini, Chief of the ESCWA Information and Communication Technology Policies Section, are heading to the headquarters of the Paris based UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to participate in the First WSIS+10 Review Meeting entitled “Towards Knowledge Societies for Peace and Sustainable Development”, which will be held on 25 - 27 February 2013. In this meeting, ESCWA and the League of Arab States (LAS) are organizing a session on “Opportunities and challenges of Domain Names Industry in the Arab World and Updates on the Arab Internet Governance Forum (AIGF) Process”. The session is intended to review the most pressing issues in Internet Domain Name country code Top-Level Domains (IDN ccTLDs) registered in Arabic within the region. It will present the recent developments regarding applying for the new Arab gTLDs (.arab and .ÚÑÈ) and the vision foreseen for these domain names. The session will also discuss the latest updates on the Arab IGF process and modalities. It will feature contributions from high-level regional experts as well as regional, international and national organizations.
