Delegation to Visit the South Thursday

UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy and a number of UN agency representatives will be visiting the South of Lebanon on Thursday 12 October 2006. The delegation will also include representatives from donor organizations such as the Union of Arab Banks as well as a number of UNESCWA senior staff and experts. During her visit, Tallawy is expected to reveal the nature of the assistance that UNESCWA will be providing to the South in the next stage. Tallawy will conclude her trip with a stop in the town of Qana to visit the shrine of the victims of the massacres and partake iftar with relatives of the victims. The office of the Executive Secretary at UNESCWA has disseminated the schedule of the visit as follows: 12:00 Arrival to Saida, meeting with Mr. Malek Abdel Khalek, Governor of Southern Lebanon; 13:30 Arrival to Tyre, meeting with members of the United Municipality Council of Tyre County, as well as Governor of the South and Tyre Kaiem Makam Hussein Kabalan; 15:30 Arrival to Bent Jbail, meeting with the United Municipality Council of Bint Jbeil County, Nabtieh Governor Mr. Mahmoud Al-Maula, and Bint Jbeil Kaiem Makam Ibrahim Assaf; 17:40 Arrival to Qana, lay flowers on the graves of the martyrs of the latest Qana massacres; 18:00 Meeting with the Municipality Council of Qana; 18:30 Meeting with the families in the Municipality Garden; 18:40 Iftar in the Qana Municipality Garden.
