Cost of conflict in Syria and Future Expectations

What is the economic impact of the conflict in Syria? What is the effect of the conflict on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the country? What are future expectations under the continued conflict? These questions will find their answers in a discussion session that ESCWA is holding, on the occasion of launching its “Cost of the Conflict in Syria” report, at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 10 September 2014 at the UN House, Riad El Solh, Beirut. The session commences with a statement by ESCWA Chief Economist and Head of the Economic Development and Globalization Division Abdallah Dardari, followed by a presentation of the report by Chief of the ESCWA Economic Policies Section Khaled Abu Ismail. The detailed presentation is followed by an open discussion with the participation of group of economists and development experts, alongside the “National Agenda for the Future of Syria Programme” team who drafted it, ESCWA staff and experts in addition to the participating media figures.
