Arab civil society reviews Beijing Declaration implementation 25 years on

What:    The regional consultative workshop on the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after 25 years organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), and the Arab Women Organization (AWO).
 
When:             Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April 2019 at 9:00 am.

              Participants include representatives from civil society organizations in Arab countries and relevant international and regional organizations and other regional experts.
 
Why:    Twenty-five years after the Beijing Declaration, states around the world will submit next May their fifth comprehensive national reviews of the progress made and challenges encountered in its implementation.
 
This workshop aims to present and discuss the progress made over the past five years from the perspective of civil society organizations by highlighting contributions of civil society organizations to the implementation of the Beijing Declaration; identifying the most significant obstacles and challenges; and by identifying priorities, future visions and recommendations that will accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the Arab region.
 
It will also review preparations underway to submit the national reviews next May.
