The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign (2016) has been conducted by ESCWA, IWSAW (LAU), ABAAD (Lebanese NGO) and UN-Women Regional Office for Arab States. The overall goal of the campaign is raising public awareness on gender-based violence and especially violence against women, which constitutes a striking phenomenon in the region. The campaign targeted different audiences with a view to reach out all sectors of the public. The campaign has been featured in articles online following interviews to the staff in charge: • http://www.lau.edu.lb/news-events/news/archive/dont_cover_violence_report_it/ • http://iwsaw.lau.edu.lb/activities/2016/16-days-of-activism-panel-discus.php • http://www.lau.edu.lb/news-events/news/archive/multiple_partnerships_and_init/ Video Competition (led by LAU) (10-25 November 2016). As a part of the campaign, IWSAW organized and launched a video competition – in collaboration with UN ESCWA, ABAAD, and UN-Women – entitled “How Would You Stop Violence Against Women?” and invited youth (aged up to 25 years old) from the Arab region to participate. The purpose of the competition was to engage the youth and explore how they would take action to prevent and stop violence against women. The competition asked the youth to convey a message in a creative and innovative manner to combat violence against women by producing a 30-second video on how to stop VAW. A selection panel was held on 29 November 2016, where one representative of each partner organisation gathered to choose the winner. The video selected was submitted by Kourken Papazian, and can be found under the following link: https://youtu.be/NPSRzMH_4lw. As a prize, the partner organisations agreed to host the winner in a TV show, where his video would be displayed. He has been also hosted in a panel discussion later on at ESCWA, where he presented and displayed his video. ESCWA has arranged an interview with UN Radio NY.
