National Technical Cooperation Workshop in the UAE

“The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Technical Cooperation Workshop” opened today in Dubai, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Ministry of Economy at the UAE. In his opening remarks, ESCWA Director of the Program, Planning and Technical Cooperation Division of ESCWA Roberto Laurenti, expressed the Commission’s gratitude to the Assistant Under-Secretary-General at the Emirati Ministry of Economy, Mr. Mohamad Saleh Shalwah for his full support in holding this meeting. Laurenti considered that the meeting could not have come at a better time, “considering an increasing regional and global leadership role the UAE keeps on playing in different sectors”. He added that the workshop will review what has been achieved so far in the UAE cooperation with ESCWA and identify ways to promote UAE’s success stories in the region and beyond and to stride towards Vision 2021 using ESCWA’s regional platform and networks. Laurenti demonstrated ESCWA’s advisory services and technical support that the Commission could provide to the UAE, to anticipate challenges and opportunities in the coming years. The workshop will discuss modalities of future cooperation between UAE and ESCWA in areas such as the promotion of digital Arabic content, economic, social and political participation of youth and women, economic modeling and expanded support to statistics as a basis for evidence based policy making.
