Workshop on “Measuring Wellbeing and Progress of Arab Societies”
Beirut, 29 October 2010 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA, in close collaboration with the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), is organizing the first coordinators’ workshop on “Measuring Wellbeing and Progress of Arab Societies” from 1 to 5 November 2010, at the UN House in Beirut.
The meeting will be opened on 1 November at 9:00 by Dr. Maral Tutelian, Director General of the Central Administrtion of Statistics, Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Lebanon, OECD and AITRS, and the Director of ESCWA Statistics Division Juraj Riecan will deliver a welcome statement.
Coordinators from over 13 Arab national statistical offices will attend the workshop, which aims at enhancing Arab statistical capacity in new methodologies of wellbeing and societal progress. Its main objective is to facilitate development of a bottom-up national developmental frameworks that would serve policymakers in making informed decisions.
