ESCWA launches a forum on “Social Integration”

Beirut, 1 September 2010 (UN Information Service) — ESCWA is pleased to invite you to participate in the discussions of the third and last e-forum on social policy entitled “Social Integration: towards achieving inclusive participation in Western Asia” (http://pdwa.escwa.org.lb/forum-social.php), through the portal “Towards an inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region”. The second e-forum in the portal, entitled “Media and Development” (http://pdwa.escwa.org.lb/forum-media.php) is still underway, and you can submit your comments on it until the end of September. The last e-forum will last for two consecutive months, from 1 September to 30 October 2010. In order to participate in the e-discussions under this e-forum thematic area, you are advised to send a request by signing up under the “Members’ login” box on the upper right hand side of the website. The discussions will be examined, followed and moderated by. Ibtesam AlAtiyat, professor of Sociology at St. Olaf College-USA.. AlAtiyat holds a PHD degree in Political Sociology, and a Master’s Degree in Sociology. She has to her name many articles and research papers on several cross-cutting social issues in the Arab region. She has worked as a consultant and senior research fellow at Kettering Foundation (USA), and has proven expertise in deliberative democracy, community development and civic education. She is also the founding member of the Arab Network for the Study of Democracy based in Lebanon, and serves on board of SIGI- Jordan, and the Jordanian Women's Union. It is noteworthy that your contribution to this e-forum will be included in a multi-country competition to win the “Best ESCWA e-forum Contributor award”. Three best contributors will be selected from the said e-forum to be awarded a Platinum Certificate for the first place, a Golden certificate for the second place and a Silver certificate for the third place. We are looking forward to your valuable inputs in the “Social Integration: towards achieving inclusive participation in Western Asia” forum, which aims to help in forging a dynamic and active civil society that is capable to contribute to policy formulation, implementation and monitoring.
