Bioenergy and sustainable development in the Arab rural area

The paper focuses on the status of bioenergy in the Arab region, especially in the least developed countries, and the Arab position that rejects the use of agricultural crops in developing countries to produce biofuels for the transport sector.
This paper also presents the bioenergy targets of some Arab countries, the current situation of bioenergy in electricity generation and related case studies from the Arab region. In addition, this publication illustrates the bioenergy, water, food and climate change mitigation nexus, as well as the importance of preparing the enabling environment to attract investments and to enhance national support and regional and global collaboration.
