On 22 July, ESCWA and the UN Environment Programme organized a webinar on the “State of Food Waste in West Asia”. Experts from the American University of Beirut and the Lebanese American University made presentations about measures that can be taken to reduce food loss in the region.
According to ESCWA, reducing food loss and waste by 50 per cent would improve food availability and increase household income by at least $20 billion annually.
The webinar also provided an overview of the impact of food waste on food security and the environment.
