On the margins of the High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development 2021 (HLPF), ESCWA and UNOSSC co-organized an event on 12 July to reclaim the potential of intra- and inter-regional South-South Cooperation in advancing more inclusive and sustainable social protection systems in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
The event discussed social protection policies in the Arab region as a structural entry point for poverty alleviation, reduction of inequality and building resilience of individuals and societies.
Participants agreed on a set of recommendations that were built on existing mechanisms for cooperation, and suggested several modalities for more South-South exchanges.
