“We know that young Arabs can rise to the occasion and lead COVID-19 recovery,” said ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti on 18 August.
Dashti was intervening during the AGYLE webinar organized by the UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Center to discuss the role of young people in a green recovery from COVID-19. She stressed that the Arab region was not on track to achieve the SDGs and was particularly off-track on youth-focused SDGs even before the pandemic.
“Today, there is a window of opportunity to build back better and advance sustainable development for a stable, just and flourishing Arab society,” she said, urging the Arab States to move towards low-emission, energy-efficient and climate-resilient development pathways.
