Despite local and international efforts to mitigate the repercussions of conflict on Syrian refugees and host communities in Jordan, 78% of Syrian refugees still live below the Jordanian poverty line and 62% of them have become vulnerable to debt to cover rent cost, health expenditures and access to food.

On 26 January, ESCWA organized a virtual meeting with governmental and non-governmental actors engaged in livelihood and food security programming to discuss the recommendations of its field study on “Understanding livelihoods solutions under protracted forced displacement: the case of Homs refugees in Jordan”.

The study is part of an ESCWA initiative for guiding recovery and strengthening livelihoods in a lingering regional refugee crisis. It is aimed at supporting the transition from humanitarian assistance to context-based sustainable development programming.
