The Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO), the League of Arab States (LAS) and ESCWA co-organized the first Arab webinar on “ICT Fighting COVID-19: Arab Initiatives and Success Stories”. Participants included Arab ministers and representatives from international organizations and the technology and business sectors.
Discussions revolved around mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through the use of ICTs. Representatives from Arab Governments presented their countries’ national strategies in that regard. All agreed on the key role of technology in ensuring the delivery of critical health and education services and sustaining societies and economies in times of lockdown.
For their part, ESCWA experts gave an overview on the policy briefs issued by the regional commission on the impact of the pandemic on areas including employment, poverty, trade, investments and water resources.
