On 10 March, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti participated in the virtual launch of the “High-level Dialogue on Energy: A Year of Energy Action”, which marks the start of preparations for the High-level Dialogue on Energy to be held at the Summit level during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2021.
In her address, Dashti underlined that “only through an integrated approach with sustainable energy as enabler can we build resilient societies, create decent work opportunities, advance innovation, address climate change, and ensure that no one is left behind as nations move towards fulfilling their development mandate”.
The launch initiated the deliberations of five Technical Working Groups that will prepare a global road map for ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all (SDG 7) by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
