On 9 July, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti took part in the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, held virtually until 16 July on the theme "Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”.
"COVID-19 is a development crisis, not just a health one. At ESCWA we have estimated that low- and middle-income Arab countries need $50 billion, in addition to the $100 billion already announced, to mitigate the impact of the pandemic,” Dashti said.
To accelerate recovery and transformation towards sustainable development, ESCWA is calling for the establishment of a regional solidarity fund, additional debt relief and improved access to concessional finance for indebted Arab countries.
