On 15 July, the executive secretaries of the five United Nations regional commissions discussed progress achieved towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their respective regions at a special event of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).
"The Arab region still lags far behind, all the more so with the COVID-19 pandemic," said ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti during the event.
Dashti reiterated the call of ESCWA for the enhancement of data collection and accessibility in Arab countries, stressing that it was a crucial element to achieve the positive transformation needed towards a stable, just and flourishing Arab region, where no one is left behind.
