Consumer protection in times of COVID-19

COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on markets, affecting people’s health and economic welfare. It fueled a digital surge, giving also rise to unfair business practices in some cases.
 
The cross-border nature of the pandemic and the digital economy calls for cooperation among national consumer protection agencies. To address this issue, ESCWA and UNCTAD hosted on 3 August a webinar on “Consumer Protection in the Aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Focus on Digitization in the Arab Region”.
 
Experts discussed ways to support Arab States in strengthening the protection of consumer rights by holistically addressing the impact of COVID-19 on consumers and the shift to digitization.
