COVID-19 has caused large-scale loss of life and severe human suffering, setting in motion major economic crises that will burden our societies for years to come. In response, Governments have implemented various stimulus programmes in parallel with measures to contain the virus.

As part of stimulus discussions, ESCWA, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organized a webinar on 16 July on measures and policies to stimulate and protect competition in the wake of COVID-19, and on the challenges faced by competition authorities in the Arab region in that regard.

Experts stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation and the role of organizations in supporting competition authorities to face new challenges.
