Climate, peace, and security are key challenges facing the Arab region – an area marred by protracted conflicts, and one that’s highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
To understand the relationship between climate change and conflict, ESCWA held an expert group meeting on “Climate-related security risks in the Arab region.” The meeting on 23 May was an opportunity to assess climate-related hazards in the region, and explore ways to enhance climate security.
Participants also discussed the findings of the upcoming issue of the ESCWA “Trends and Impacts in Conflict Settings” series, which tackles climate change, security and peace in the region.
