On 3 June, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti participated in a panel discussion on “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation: Water, Energy and Food Security in the Region”, held by the Islamic Development Bank Group as part of the 2022 Annual Meetings.
Dashti called for an increase in funding for climate adaptation, stressing it was crucial for the Arab region amid rising temperatures and increased water and food scarcity.
She also recalled the Climate/SDGs Debt Swap Mechanism launched by ESCWA in 2020 to help Arab countries cope with climate finance, high debt burdens, and fiscal pressures.
