The webinar focused on the challenges and opportunities of choosing the census methodology and enumeration methods in planning for the population and housing census in Sudan. The webinar offered an opportunity to benefit from ESCWA’s expertise regarding the use of technology, census methodologies and methods of enumeration in population and housing censuses, including the basis of enumeration (de facto and de jure), usual place of residence, nomadic populations and migration, and their suitability to the situation in Sudan. The webinar also provided an opportunity to benefit from the experience of the Arab Republic of Egypt in undertaking its census for the year 2017 on the basis of de jure population enumeration, and its plan to combine both de jure and de facto methods of enumeration in the upcoming census. The webinar concluded with a discussion about international migration, census enumeration methods and the feasibility of using one or two census forms (short and long form) and the advantages and disadvantages of each one in terms of cost and quality.
