The workshop aims to:
- Strengthen the personnel and institutional capacities of national statistical offices and banks in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries through the transfer and exchange of knowledge, providing support to ESCWA Member States in implementing the international recommendations of the guidance note developed by the Islamic Finance Task Team (IFTT) on the statistical treatment of Islamic finance in national accounts and external sector statistics and the feasibility of implementation;
- Elect one or more GCC country as a case study for testing the new recommendations of the guidance note;
- Cooperate and coordinate with partners from the United Nations Statistics Division, the International Monetary Fund, the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions and experts from the IFTT to continue capacity-building and technical assistance on the statistical treatment of Islamic finance in GCC countries;
- Contribute to the preparation of user guides for priority topics to help specialists in GCC countries implement the latest international recommendations on the statistical treatment of Islamic finance;
- Share the experiences of GCC member countries and their initiatives regarding adopting specific areas for updates.
