In 2019, regional United Nations agencies and international non-governmental organizations came together to work on the Regional Situational Analysis of Women and Girls in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Arab States Region. Participants include ESCWA; the Food and Agriculture Organization; the United Nations Population Fund Arab States Regional Office; UN Women; the United Nations Development Programme; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; the World Food Programme; the World Health Organization; Plan International; and Terre des Hommes Foundation, under the leadership of the United Nations Children's Fund MENA Regional Office.
Using a life cycle approach, the Regional Situational Analysis covers the main developments that impacted women and girls during the period 2010 to 2020 through the pillars of health and well-being; learning and livelihoods; freedom from violence and access to justice; and participation and leadership.
The Regional Situational Analysis was formally launched online on 30 November 2021, during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December).
