On 29 November 2021, ESCWA is organizing an event to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 32/40 B of 1977, which called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity. On that day in 1947, the Assembly adopted Resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine.
ESCWA observes the International Day of Solidarity so as to raise awareness about the plight of the Palestinian people and to mobilize support for the efforts of the Palestinian people to attain their inalienable rights. ESCWA also continues to monitor and document Israeli policies and violations of international law in the occupied Palestinian territory.
During the official ceremony, the message of the Secretary-General of the United Nations will be presented, followed by speeches from ESCWA, the Lebanese Republic and the State of Palestine. The economic repercussions of Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territory will be presented by ESCWA's Governance and Conflict Prevention cluster. The official ceremony will conclude with a speech from Mr. Michael Link, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967.
